What Is EcO Start + Connect?

EcO Start + Connect is iopool's complete smart water monitoring solution for one pool or hot tub treated with chlorine or bromine.

The system combines three essential components:

1. EcO Smart Water Monitor: A floating sensor that measures key water parameters.

2. iopool cOnnect Gateway: A Bluetooth/Wi-Fi device that enables remote access to EcO readings.

3. iopool App: Your pool care companion, displaying measurements and providing personalized maintenance recommendations.

What Does EcO Monitor?

EcO directly measures three important water parameters:

pH – Monitor Your Water Balance

pH indicates how acidic or basic your water is. Keeping it within the recommended range helps maintain swimmer comfort and supports effective water treatment.

ORP – Understand Disinfection Potential

ORP (oxidation-reduction potential), measured in millivolts (mV), provides an indication of the water's oxidizing and disinfecting potential.

ORP is not a direct measurement of free chlorine concentration in ppm. It should be interpreted alongside other water chemistry measurements.

Water Temperature – Stay Informed

EcO monitors water temperature, helping you follow temperature changes in your swimming pool or hot tub.

What Doesn't EcO Measure Directly?

EcO does not directly measure free chlorine concentration, cyanuric acid (CYA), total alkalinity (TA), calcium hardness, or salt concentration.

Here's how the connection works:

EcO sensor → Bluetooth → cOnnect gateway → Home Wi-Fi → iopool app

EcO communicates through Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). The cOnnect gateway receives its readings and transmits them through your home Wi-Fi network, making them accessible through the app when the system is connected.

This means you can review your available water readings from work, while traveling, or wherever you have internet access.

What Do You Need for Remote Monitoring?

• A 2.4 GHz home Wi-Fi network with internet access

Walls, pool covers, and other obstacles may affect Bluetooth communication. Remote updates depend on the gateway's connection and are not instantaneous.

Why ORP Matters for Pool Water Care

ORP helps you understand the water's oxidizing potential, which is relevant to disinfection.

Unlike a chlorine test, ORP does not tell you the free chlorine concentration in ppm. pH, stabilizer concentration, and other water conditions can influence how ORP readings should be interpreted.
